Interestingly the first two replies actually are the best examples of vocal ability in this thread. You can tell within the first couple phrases of each of these girls they are immensely talented. Nothing else posted in the thread compares. They have full rich tone, no strain on the high notes, and vibrato that can ripple wine in the glass.
As far as pure ability Nina wins out. She's definitely more refined than Gura, very likely has formal training. Thank you for introducing her to me, anon who posted that. However, she might slightly suffer from being *too* refined, as her vocal timbre is a bit generic. It sounds as though I've heard it sung before a dozen times in some forgotten movie or something, even though I've never encountered her. It's a minor nitpick compared to how good she is, but it's there.
Whereas you have Gura. She has something completely unique, there's a magic there with her voice, as other anons in the thread have alluded to. She doesn't sound like any notable famous singers, she made her own voice work at an instantly noticeable level of skill. She also has no formal training which is impressive in and of itself, in that she's nearly as good as Nina in raw technique. Her main issue is consistency. Gura's best performances are mindblowing but those are an overall minority. With enough practice and refinement she's going to become an absolute monster. Right now there's no question she's the best in hololive at the top of her game, in a year it won't be a question ever, and in a few years the question will be "what the hell are you doing streaming video games in hololive, you should have a professional touring music career".
Everyone else in the thread who had live songs posted is leagues beneath these two. Yes, even AZKi, she's hovering around "very good for an amateur" and her singing is passable, but nothing about her performances POPS or impresses, her tone is lacking, her falsetto isn't reinforced or quite on pitch. Although one thing I will say is her audio quality and mixing is pretty sub-par, which is surprising for someone focused on singing. Someone get her a fucking audio tech, no excuses Cover. She might stand out more with that taken care of. Then again, she might not.
I need more live examples of other vtubers to compare, produced covers are meaningless in the face of the difficulty of singing live.
