I can see it becoming more normalized in mainstream society in the East. Kizuna Ai at the moment is the closest to being mainstream within Japanese mainstream society, but some of the other older VTubers aren't too far behind her.

The West is a different story and it could go either way.

It was already gaining weird foothold in the west without proper rigging before the holoen explosion. I used to see shit like vegeta reacts, gon plays etc. If a big company wanted they could legit use known properties for similar content.

they probably could if they've still got contracts with the voice talents, but yeah. it's definitely a thing major companies will probably look into. even if it's not a real stream where they interact with the chat. (give them a safe corporate approved script and just go through it to advertise their products)
