>>77043791Lad, I get the idea the story can still have meaning, but it means a lot of the structure feels wasted. The film stayed visually interesting, but a lot of the engagement is in parsing the structure alongside the meaning of the scenes. I didn't want to be pat on the head for realising which scenes were real and fake, but I did want a cohesive narrative. With "All A Dream", then it doesn't matter what the writer puts in between the start and finish, so long as one beat is hit. Jacob's Ladder managed it, but a lot lower than that. I still saw structure, I still felt a thread of "And so" from scene to scene, and I still felt a point to it all - but it's sinking in how much quicker it could have moved.
