Any time you see a public figure mentioning private death threats, they're just following modern internet damage control 101, lying for publicity and manipulating public opinion. Because the average person figures "yeah they may be lying, but if they're not then I'd be a terrible person for doubting them." That's how the grift works, but when you know the grift then the spell loses its magic.
