Also: always make a separate /home partition*. That way, if the OS is fucked, you only need to reformat the main OS partition, /boot and etc.
*Or, because there are dumb dotfiles and configs that your OS "needs" or sets up, and you MIGHT not want to preserve those, what I do is make a /data partition, and symlink. So things like /home/{{user}}/documents is actually stored in /data/{{user}}/documents. Then any time you "reinstall" you set up the symlinks again and everything is back!
