>>77384176Here's the real complicated lore that people don't know about but I do, because I researched this shit a year or two ago.
You remember Cover's biggest con appearance like two years ago? The Crunchyroll con? With all that official shit going on between them and Cover?
Guess what: The convention company that organized the con on Crunchyroll's behalf is the same company that does AnimeNYC.
And remember: Yagoo did GO to the Crunchyroll con in person, iirc. Or at least, stopped in there on the way to a business related convention.
It's entirely possible that he talked to them there and secured a contract with them for first bidding rights, and when Crunchyroll pulled out of hosting their own con, that priority shifted over to the con company's next biggest event, Anime NYC, where there was already some pre-established groundswell after the successful Council panel (successful in driving attendance not in actual panel events but that's a whole different rant I could spend an hour on holy FUCK)
Add on the VRChat combo that came in from 2022 on, and the massively improved administration from 2021 ANYC to 2022 and onwards ANYC, and then Cover locked in hard for Anime NYC
