They are part of an existing series, and even when consuming the works they're in there is no way to interact with them (unless you're playing a dating sim, which has its own limitations). And even then there's a fair amount of characters that came from pre-existing manga/LNs where you can make up whatever voice you want for them, so you can avoid the official VA if you want.
Because of how thin the line is with how vtubers present themselves on stream and who they actually are behind the model, seeing what they look like can be damaging to an extent. In Yuko's case she fucked herself over hard because she not only lewded her character extraordinarily hard with an IRL pissing stream at that, but she pretty much graduated by showing off herself in a bikini like a regular camgirl. So seeing the face pretty much destroyed any image that was built up.
