It's a well-known game in which the decisions you make shape the story. And those "decisions" can present themselves in the form of seemingly inconsequential encounters. Backseating is to be expected.
But i liked how well Mumei has handled it in her streams. I hope she continues her run.

It's actually comical how strong Undertale is as a narrative if you aren't forewarned about the gimmick and get hard locked neutral... The punchline is how fucking desperate the fanbase is to ensure nobody gets the best experience playing the game. Genuinely so fucking disgusting I can only watch 1 views play this game without getting so tilted I have to leave.

Because a streamer is unlikely to want to play the game twice and Undertale's big moment for a lot of people is beating the game the wrong way and playing it a second time to do it the right way.

It's insane to me how people keep screaming to do Pacifist first. I'm not going to say you can't know because it's outright stated on the storepage but the game is meant to be played neutral no matter how you spin it. It even ends explicitly by telling you

and then you see cast members you might've never seen more of do more things making the game feel like a whole new experience, because you went backwards from the fact that NPC death = content cut logic, which isn't really a thing in most RPG's since you can't kill questgivers. Barring western stuff where that's kinda prevalent anyways.

Ok so let me explain to you why backseating in only 1 part of the game is necessary
Theres 4 routes in undertale: Neutral, Pacifist Neutral, Pacifist and Genocide.
If you kill ANYONE in the neutral route you are locked into it and you cannot go into pacifist for the rest of the playthrough. Meaning you would have to play the entire game AGAIN to get the pacifist ending. If you play pacifist neutral you can go do the pacifist ending immediately after the neutral ending meaning you wasted no time. I can guarantee you that in 9/10 cases people drop the game right there and then when being told they have to play the game again just because they killed that 1 shitty froggit at the start or they couldnt figure out how to spare toriel
For genocide you have to get backseated to even begin the route. Nobody would sit in a room grinding mobs for an hour on their own

Yeah... funny story about that. We don't know how deep it'll go with chapters 3 and onwards but there is a definitive Genocide-esque route and it's heavily implied being a super nice guy aka Pacifist is akin to Undertale's Neutral route in the sense of it not being the "true route". I don't wanna go into the area of theories because I know this board has unironic undertaletweens on it, and look right as I'm making this past I saw one.

Games with good/funny scenes that can be missed will always be backseated. There are a few ways to handle this.
Ponto: straight out says "goodbye chat" and only looks at it when needed.
Deron: any tips will get banned unless you use a certain emoji at the beginning and end
Towa: stop playing the game on stream and finish it offline
Lamy: get an menhera attack, stops streaming and then only releases prerecorded footage.
Most streamers: act like they didn't saw it and continue playing.

Isn't like, the entire point of the game having multiple routes being that you get slapped in the face for not taking the "you don't have to kill anyone!" tagline seriously? You don't have to because of Pacifist, you can because of instinct of the genre with Neutral, and you take it as a challenge in Genocide. You do one and you learn about the others and different flags get triggered which leads to a somewhat or even vastly different game.
