A woman named littleebi catfished as Gawr Gura and had her personal discord server. She got terminated from VRChat. She was a singer, guitarist.
What was insane is that she was so dedicated and even did singing. Used the official 3D model in discord calls. Amassed a community so big full of people who believed she was the real Gura. It became so big that Holopro actually got involved and confirmed she was posing as Gura for attention (and also formed romantic relationships under that identity). She even paid huge money to make her voice changer sound way more convincing than the average voice changer. It was crazy. Huge.
The real Gawr Gura herself had to step up and told the staff it wasnt her.

VRChat made the same mistake that many companies made since they believed the VR hype. When the market didn't grow they had too many staff and were bleeding money. If they didn't start cutting costs they would have gone bankrupt.

Though Ron finally left the fucking company and shit is actually getting done and there is a vision there they are still not making money ever since Meta and others kind of ditched them and the vr headset market is just kind of floundering

VR Headsets are just too expensive so the audience is stagnant as fuck

The reason why is that the company is already in the process of dying. In an attempt to save the dying brand they then try to organize a collaboration with Hololive(a large company that has a lot of fans) to try and get new people to join their community/buy their product/etc.
If the company isn't appealing to fans of Hololive then it'll just die shortly after as at most the fans will come for their oshi and then fuck off afterwards. This is obviously amplified if the death is born from the company making a colossal fuck up that pisses their current customers off meaning the collaboration was a last ditch effort to save everything.
