I know for sure that my gaming friend group usually play with me while a stream is playing in the background and when there's downtime they have secondary game, usually something light and quick to consume like brotato or holocure in my case and when new round start we simply tab back in. Sometimes I even heard two different streams or music/karaoke added to the mix.
So I don't think this is something weird at all, it's just the most efficient way to maximise enjoyment/time.
