Companies are greedy and don't like other companies profiting off of their stuff. They might turn a blind eye to a random indie but once they see billion dollar corporations singing their songs they just see dollar signs. Technically the same rules apply across the board but they're picky-choosy with who they enforce them on which means big vtuber corpos have to make extra sure not to step on any toes lest they get sued

I kind of get it because of le Japanese culture and a lot of chuubas are weebs but it's still fucking weird to me for orisongs because most of EN doesn't speak Japanese in the first place. But even fucking IRyS whose entire gimmick was being an EN vsinger released music on debut and lo and behold, it's just more songs in nihongo with some awkward obviously ESL-written English lines here and there.

Hell, remember that gigantic return stream she had with the 126k ccv? She doesn't earn a cent on it because some chucklefuck played a clip on twitch (through a command she forgot to disable that played it on her OBS even if she wasn't actually streaming on it) that had a 10 second cut of Freebird. So now all ad revenue for the entire stream goes to the rights holders for that song.
