This applies mostly to female streamers. You don't watch male streamers for attention. You watch them to laugh at and live vicariously through their hijinks without having to put in the effort yourself. Meanwhile, no man is living vicariously through an anime girl, and the female vtubing fan demo isn't necessarily as large or dedicated as the Legion of Simps.
I'd say that's also part of what's holding a lot of chubas back. They're catering a lot to women and children with their content...which will invarably alienate men who don't watch gfe nor share a child's media preferences. Competing in a crowded market for the attention of women and children alongside everyone else will invariably have diminishing returns after a certain point.
