However, (natty) muscle gives the same volume and density without the downsides. The problem with strong fat art is that only certain areas are fat, but the upper body and thighs are shredded like a roider, which is usually not how it works (unless you're talking about visceral fat).
In real life, even if you gain muscle mass, your sinew (veins, abs, bones) will not show if subcutaneous fat is able to blot it out. This is why ab muscles disappear after a certain body fat%, unless the abs are big enough to poke through. You can even spot gain muscle (but NOT spot reduce), which is why "squats n oats" give you a bigger ass. To a certain degree, working your abs and obliques might thicken your torso and may hurt your hourglass shape, which is why muscle isn't as attractive. But, with the right plan, you can improve your hourglass shape by targeting only certain groups.
