>>79280279>>79279494>>792812792018 JP 1: 5 members (Mel was originally not marketed as JP 1 and replaced Chris upon her termination)
2018 JP 2: 5 members
2019 JP 3: 5 members
2019 JP 4: 5 members
2020 JP 5: 5 members
2020 EN 1: 5 members
2021 EN 2: 5 members
2021 JP 6: 5 members
2023 EN 3: 5 members (two members share one channel)
2023 DEV_IS 1: 5 members
2024 EN 4: 4 members
The three exceptions to 5 person generations are:
- JP Gen 0 is 5 members, but it's an amalgamation of members with irregular debuts.
- hololive Gamers was an expiremental gen in 2019 established to compete with Nijisanji's Gamers wave the same year and consisted of Gen 1's Fubuki, Fubuki's friend Mio, and Mio's 2 friends, Okayu and Korone.
- Irys debuted in hololive EN in 2021 independently and later joined council to form the 5 person generation Promise after Sana graduated.
Notice how 2 of these 3 exceptions ended up being 5 person groups anyways.
So within the hololive main branch and hololive English, every proper generation has consisted of 5 members. This is a holdover from idol culture where units tend to consist of 5 members. EN 4 is the first and only proper generation within JP or EN in over 6 years to debut with only 4 members. It feels wrong, as if one member is missing.
Also, I'm aware that ID and CN generations consisted of 3 members and that holostars generations vary in number from 3-6 members, but that isn't relevant to the two branches that have always debuted major gens with 5 person units, JP and EN.
