So 'idol culture' basically means having a kind of interactive relationship with your fans to help you succeed. There are traditional idol groups who sing and dance, gravure idols (models), indie singer idols, vtuber/streamer idols, etc. The term 'idol culture' sometimes gets a bad wrap because some idols go too far to gain fan support, but it's used more negatively in the west because lots of culture war weirdos just hate seeing cute girls doing cute things to appeal to guys.
