Why aren't there more vtubers using classic Western aesthetics? Wouldn't that be a good way to stand out in the 2view hell?

I know people here shit on Hades and the sort of Western ""anime"" (Castlevania, Lara Croft) but I feel like there are a lot of hot Western-style art. if you could get one of them to make a commission for model, I think you'd stand out decently well

the real answer is you can't really capture the aesthetic of an old cartoon with live2D due to rigging and 3D just doesn't match the same. You could probably get a funny Hanna Barbera style vtuber that'd look spot on though if someone was willing to put the effort in.

Models which are too far removed from "the norm" are unironically a debuff.

They can look really good, be a great design, excellent rig, and it'll still debuff you because it's too different.

From my observation, a non-exhaustive list of debuff models includes
>furries
>animals (different from furries e.g. NijiJP Debi and Shiba)
>objects
>bugs
>horror themes
>anything "dirty"
>Western cartoon
>cute/simple/mascot-type design
>male
>black
Not to say you can't find an audience with these designs but it is notably more difficult.

An excellent example of Pumpkin Potion, already posted ITT, for whom it took normies on Twitter seething about big vtuber tits to get any attention.

Example, Vesper_AWOL, a horror-themed bug girl
If you stick with her, she's pretty damn cute, but on the first pass her big ol' bug eyes and chompers are kind of gross
These days she's a bit of a /lig/ darling but it sure as hell didn't start out that way

Lala's really pretty anime-styled visually, it's just her design that's a 50's waitress. Pumpkin definitely commits hard to the aesthetic she's going for, and most vtubers just use alternate aesthetics for unique or joke models

I think it'd definitely be easier to get eyes on you. Whether they stay is another matter entirely.

You can't make this style work in live2d without it looking really weird and uncanny. Anime lends itself to live2d and it was created with anime in mind, but a character that look like Mickey Mouse moving with Live2d physics would not look right.
