>>80107338It works like a tech ecosystem does, kinda. The massive Holos out there, the Marine's, Pekora's and Gura's catch everyone's attention, and then once the people captivated by them feel inclined to check out the rest of the company, and eventually, probably settle with someone else as their oshi other than who they started with. Just like how, maybe you picked up an Iphone for a phone, because of convenience, so when it came to getting some earphones, you defaulted to earpods, because you already had an iphone, so might as well get what goes along with your phone. throughout an expanding variety of talent, they manage, or at least try to offer something to every type of viewer, that's why every holo is needed, not matter how niche their shit might be and since the Holos, mostly associate with other holos, just by virtue of being into one of them, you get exposed to everyone else, promoting you to remain within the in group and once you're in it proceeds to feed you extremely well, it almost work like slice of life anime cast. where all the holos act as an assemble cast within their own narrative bubble with their own little groups and cliques, every now a then disrupted by big events making groups that normally wouldn't occur, that's why people love SOL shit, like JP goins crazy when the JP holos had the first "where would we sit in the classroom" stream, or the hype for the weird Holofes pairings, the dynamic continiues to further grow when you add fans to the mix because not only are those activities supported and encouraged by them but by making shit like fangames, fan mash up and such the Holofans get even more content to enjoy that doesn't even involve the girls working on it.
That's why shit like the VCR server work, because it artificially creates a similar environment for people who usually don't have one.
The homos don't get to enjoy this, because of several reason, first and foremost there's not much popularity to trickle down, the most popular homos pull 1-2k averages on channels with 300k subs, even if they were to introduce their audience to the other homos, there's not much to go around, and even if some girls do collab with them and no matter how hard Cover tries, there's enough girls that don't want to collab with them that they're not considered part of the Hololive ecosystem, they've less fans, there's fewer of them. There's not enough fans to make enough content to keep the machine moving without the homos, and the current homos are not good enough to make the machine running on it's own.
