I swear this board can't make up its mind on what the EN market is like. One second it's big enough that companies are stupid to not try and get a piece and the next it's shrunk ten times its previous size so now everyone will be eating into everyone else's viewers.

Probably because of Youtube's view count fuckery. If you need an example of how bad it is, Pippa from Phase Connect did a poll and it had twice as many votes as it did viewers, they just straight up don't count a lot of viewers.

That seems to be a lot more common than expected. Granted my image is an hour long poll, but 2k views shouldn't equal 10k votes. I've seen something simlar with Ina where, despite having the most consistent viewerbase, had a poll with more votes than viewers.

There wasn't a single channel that was ahead of >hers when applications opened for EN gen 1, and it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the EN branch may have fared about the same as ID or CN, Hololive's popularity exploded pretty fast in the EN market.

What strikes me as quite funny is that if Gura had waited until Gen 2 to apply, she would probably have got that smaller fanbase she wanted as everyone else either would have drifted towards Ame, or they wouldn't have exploded in popularity as they did.

Wrong, the more entertaining ones with higher fanbases will be fine. The smaller ones might go down a bit. Overall though, Gen 2 will bring more attention to Gen 1.

I find it funny because amelia had getting 100k subs as one of her goals on debut and gura said she wanted to get a shark plush for every 100k sub she gets, i don't remember if the others said anything about it

It's more that the argument has changed. Vtubing popularity has peaked for the time being, Gen 2 is nice for already existing Holofans but I'd be surprised if it improved the popularity of the medium on the whole.
