The world tries harder than ever lately to pretend that we've become so proper and advanced and progressive as a society - but the events of the past couple years show that no, plenty, plenty plenty of "bad" people who "think wrong" are still out there whose existence shocks those who thought we were becoming civilized.
Just having things be papered over and covered up doesn't mean they're not there. People self-regulate, play thought police with themselves posting on twitter/reddit etc about vtubers because they are literally intimidated out of speaking their entire minds because they can't say anything too out-there for risk to their reputations. None of that means anything here so it just winds up becoming a steam vent for all the pent-up frustrations people are stifled from expressing elsewhere.
Modern conditioning trains some people to expect to be able to straight-faced dictate to strangers how to feel about things and just shun them and call them bad people if they don't conform. Nobody likes being told how to feel and what emotions are "allowed" or not, and that actually pushes people the other way to disconnect from taking 'other sides' seriously. Thoughtful, actually-open minds that are truly independent don't have any real risk of being 'damaged' by things here because you can have an open mind without it being a porous mind that soaks up 'bad' things.
If anything I find it massively patronizing as shit to assume no girl could possibly survive with their sanity intact seeing people gossiping about them unchecked. Clearly these are a bunch of fucking faggot "nice guy" white knight wannabes defending vague concepts of their (mis)understanding of how women work, putting them on pedestals like they're some other species when no, peoples' minds can know what's shitposting or not, what looks like a thoughtful critique or not without needing their hands held by males who want to be their stewards and 'know better' so as to assume they need to guide the weak females.
