>>80539602That second one sounds more likely, asia and the americas both had access sugar cane and other very sweet fruits locally, so that might be how they made their way into more recipes, while europeans mainly had honey as a high-sweetness ingredient. Though in terms of evolution the reason the fruits are sweeter is probably because the climate is hotter.
