So I was browsing the Hololive wiki page and I found out about this guy
I don’t watch Holostars except for a few clips, but even I know about the retired ones like Kaoru and Kira and they’re given recognition unlike this guy who also retired

They debuted them at a time where mixed gender collabs still happened. Debuting with a complete ban on anyone from the group interacting with the other (including members like Fubuki who wanted to help), pushing them to the side and only remembering about and rescinding the policy sometime after gen 3's growing popularity, .LIVE's collapse and NSS already caused a culture shift towards being unicorn friendly made the affiliation of being "Cover's male counterpart to Hololive" pretty worthless.
In the long run I think it's better that they've had to build up their fans and the culture around them by themselves though. As much as numberfags like to whine about them, they're not going poorly when you look at the other second tier agencies out there like Animare or Re:Act, they're stable and slowly growing.

Kinda funny read: dissapointing/frustrating that Anykara seems like they want to follow that model for their EN branch, what with not having models ready for the auditions, debuting it with only girls (making it the only branch that didn't have males since the begginning) only getting girls for the first 3 waves, segregating them by gender, etc, kinda makes me worry that the lads will end up is Holostars-like situation and feel isolated/not part of the groups and having to walk on eggshells all the time when interacting with the gals and all that shit, all that's left is for the next female wave to be full of girls that pander hard to the "no males" crowd to land them in that position...

True, it would be pretty dissapointing if like the Stars the NijiEn males, also have to look outside their branch for reliable collab partners and friends, but at least they probably won't end having to look into others outside their company for that.

Nijien has already done some impromptu collabs with males. Fanbase seemed supportive. I’m going to assume most people into niji and even holoen are ok with male collabs. vt is not representative of the vtubing fanbase.

To add to this, for all that Lazulight talked about doing male collabs and interacting with males, they really haven't done much in that department, male collabs have been kept to a minimun and tame and in general they haven't shown much actual incentive in doing them, which is especially noticeable with Elira, since she has collabed a lot but most of those are with girls only or with one male among several other girls (Barderas being the exception), not to mention that on several of those, she was the one getting invited, and Pomu and Finana haven't been too different, though in Pomu's case is understandable considering her situation.
Ironically Finana is the one that seems the most willing to collab with males since she was the one to reach out to Reza for the Temple exploration and she extended an offer to play RE with Oliver basically the next day after his debut, which is considerably more than what the others have done, even though she is a walking minefield for any male unless she limits herself like she did with Petra.
And Obsydia haven't shown any difference to Lazulight in that aspect either.

Male counterpart to a well established female-only franchise that many of the fans of the girl side actively dislike or are indifferent to, many people forget it exists, is shafted by staff hard (that mobile game is fucking atrocious), and its lack of popularity isn't even because male debuff as other companies' males (ensemble stars for example) are wildly successful
It's a bad strategy to be honest.

Yeah, despite them mostly not breaking 1k in their early days, the stars are certainly in the right direction. Slowly but surely you establish an audience then do your networking reps like Astel and now he's hovering around 1.5-3k average viewers. Anyone here even heard of sugar stella? I'm guessing none. They're an all-boys group from re:act and where are they now? 4 retired and the 2 of the guys left barely stream.

I would agree with you, but the biggest example we have for HoloEN kinda proves you wrong in some ways. Mori's collabs with Rikka all had less live viewership and vod viewership than collabs with either her female senpai or female indies. And even her impromptu Shadowverse stream with Giguk had more views too. Now it's hard to pinpoint the reason for that, but I wouldn't be so sure that the western fanbase mostly fine with male collabs.
