I'm 9 years sober and it's easily one of the best decisions I ever made. Huge respect to people who are smart enough to never even start. Alcohol is a poison which slowly chipping away your essence both physically and mentally until you just a shell of your former self. There are no good endings with alcohol. Eventually you'll hit the bottom without even fully realizing how you got there.

For me I used to drink cause it made me drop my anxiety and actually have the nerve to be social at party's. Even got me laid somehow.
After a while though, getting drunk would just amplify how insecure I felt, even bringing on suicidal thoughts,so I just quit.

I drink and smoke at conventions and my friends' parties, which are rare enough that at the absolute most frequent, might be a monthly occurrence. Otherwise I don't partake in either. Aggressive smokers are emotionally unstable nuisances at their most pleasant. Alcoholics are proud addicts who've ruined themselves willingly. Alcohol in itself doesn't have a taste, other than rubbing alcohol when it's pure. I dislike anything that isn't a tutty fruity yumyum drink, because that is what suits my taste.
I like licorice, so licorice flavoured alcohol suits my tongue, I like maple syrup, so maple syrup whiskey is tasty, etc, etc.

To be honest however, alcohol is not really that big of a deal unless you have an addiction to it, in which case I would avoid it like the plague. It's a drug after all, and it can destroy you mentally and physically. It's mostly just ok and a good way to socialize but otherwise, if you don't feel it, there isn't really a reason to consume it.
