the very first time I had any interaction with Nijsanji was one of her streams, in it she was pretty much begging the audience for money to pay her basic needs bills... that impression never left me, and i've always wondered why a corporate talent could be in such a situation, and if actually no corpo paid a fixed salary, it felt so bad i didn't even give her a pity sub or like, I just couldn't keep watching and ran away

vtubing, at the time, was financially unsustainable. Majority of the talents actually worked for Nijisanji part-time. Kuroshiba was crying because she got fired from her IRL job and could not support herself exclusively on the income she gained from Nijisanji. She’s not a popular talent and doesn’t have a very big fanbase to begin with, even more so then than now.

If you were familiar with the framework of Nijisanji, they do not make a set salary and instead make a percentage based off of superchats, merchandise sales, PR, and voice packs.
