Since I don't speak Japanese I can't say anything about the main branch. But some problems with NijiEN:
-- Literally no standards of decorum. No restrictions on saying openly political/racial/religious statements that offend massive groups of people.....until 3 people on twitter get offended about something, then it's immediate suspensions/terminations.
-- They give everything to a small cadre of people who are all friends with each other and leave everyone else out in the cold.
-- Management doesn't do....anything. Why do they even exist? It's a real question. In fact it seems like all the streaming assets are produced by the livers, all the streams and collabs are organized by the livers, all the artwork is commissioned by the livers, even the management is done by the livers. What does management even DO?
-- Extremely fucked up gender relations in the branch. The males are encouraged to be as sexual and BFE as possible. Meanwhile the girls doing the same is treated like an affront. It makes for extremely weird interactions when the "totally platonic streamer girls" interact with "lewd horny aggressive males" that isn't fun to watch. Furthermore, it's encouraged for the girls to orbit the males and try to date them or ship with them. It gives very strong NTR vibes.
-- No understanding of the difference between the Asian audience and the Western audience. Numbers is numbers. So one streamer, such as Pomu, is critically important to reaching the western audience (the entire reason the branch even exists) but she is treated as lesser than a talent who speaks japanese and siphons numbers off the main branch. As a result, they have literally no impetus to even speak English or appeal to a western audience in the slightest way. All their karaokes and original songs are in japanese. They stream in japanese timezones. All their merch is for japanese. There is ZERO built in incentives to appeal to a western audience.
-- Their hiring choices are fucking abysmal. They tend to preference people who happen to speak a foreign language. This leads to a "tower of babel" situation, where the EN branch is filled with random ESL's from all over the world who have nothing in common and come from different cultures. They can't relate to each other or even communicate very well.
-- The jokes all revolve around bathroom humor and sex. It's really low tier stuff and stale as old bread. Who does this even appeal to? The sad thing is that many people remember a time when things were not this way, before Ethyria and Luxiem sullied everything.

These are some of the major problems. The doki situation is just the tip of the iceberg, a moment when the mask slipped. It's ugly all the way down.

Anger has been growing at the company for about a year and a half. Their fans got increasingly tired of the nonstop tabs and drama, and a lot of the "old" Niji fanbase was converted into antis when Anycolor consciously chased them off by changing the content with the introduction of Luxiem.

The Selen incident was really the straw that broke the camel's back. Had it happened in a vacuum, I think it wouldn't have been so damaging, but it ended up confirming everyone's worst fears about the company and chased off what was left of the old fanbase. The black screen stream basically made it unrecoverable.
