>>81680145Comes from 5ch originally. Anyime Pekomiko was brought up, this comic would frequently be posted. The short hand for it eventually became just posting "ﾄﾞｩﾙ" or "duru", the sound effect used in the comic for Pekora pouring tea.
Then, when people starting posting screenshots of pekomiko reactions here, the machine TL would translate "duru" as "dollar", which lead people here to use "$" as short hand for Pekomiko.
Then finally, someone posted a 4chan screenshot of people talking about Pekomiko back to 5ch, and they thought people posting "$$$$$" for "duru" was funny, so they picked up on it too.
So in the end, its a Pekomiko meme that originated on 5ch, was morphed when it was translated here, and then was also picked up by 5ch when it was posted back there.
