On one hand, I have Gura to thank for playing funni reference glorified point-and-click adventure that was Henry Stickmin because it got me know what this chuuba thing was about and I got to share in a fun experience with anime shark girl. And also, thanks to that, Henry Stickmin got to more of EN, a lot of JP, and 3 or 4 ID, and that got me curious to check out other talents.
On the other hand, that was 2021, that was when vtubing hadn't had the bubble fully burst yet and when you could still get a feel for an oshi. Nowadays, you have a huge buffet to choose from.
I think it was timing and Henry Stickmin was the perfect game where you had a high chance of enjoying the stream experience with a chuuba. Stanley Parable almost got there for me for me, but since then, I've rarely seen a FOTM game help make a chuuba stand out or make a stream that entertaining to watch.
It is pretty stupid that in the year of our lord 2024, I'm somehow seeing First Time FNAF stream. Even in 2021 or even 2020, that would feel dated. And I'm glad Chilla makes a fair living, but I wish I didn't have to see his low budget games as frequently as I do. But it is a numbers game that can still work, even if it's greatly inefficient in terms of content these days.
No matter what, I'm glad it allows me to have talents like Korone playing NES JP exclusives I never heard of and Shiori having narrative-driven games that no one else would dare to play. They might engage in a trend every 2-3 months, but deep down, they know who they are.
