>>81986452It's baffling to me that you would believe people are motivated by the same exact things if you could theoretically remove all other variables. Your thoughts don't reflect reality. You have this idea that if everyone could think clearly they would reach the same conclusions as you as though your perception of the world is the distilled truth. Their individual levels of consciousness are irrelevant. Anybody can make up any explanation for their behavior but none of it will change how degenerate the acts themselves are. You're attempting to split hairs. Let me give you an example to help you understand why awareness and intentions should be disregarded.
You have a daughter. Someone kidnaps, rapes, and murders your daughter. They're caught, arrested, and are now standing trial for their crimes. It is revealed, through completely fucking supernatural means that don't really exist anywhere outside of this example that he never intended to do the things he did. He truly is afflicted with a disorder that makes him extremely confused. In his mind he wasn't doing those awful things to your daughter; he was simply playing with her. His pleasure when he was raping her was real, but his confusion about what was happening was also real.
Here's the question for you. Should he be forgiven by you and society for what he did, or should he be locked away so that something like this doesn't have the opportunity to happen again?
The answer is obvious. Intentions don't fucking matter. Practicality matters. It doesn't matter if he is conscious of his drives or what level of nuance his awareness of his motivations are. The end result is that he engages in degenerate acts and civilized, just societies do everything they can to ensure people like this do not harm others.
