>>82400775I didn't need you to reinforce my point, but thanks anyway, I guess. Everyone knows Japan has had a steep rise in recent decades of lonely, sexless men, which Westerners would derogatorily call incels. These men are either disillusioned with women, lack confidence, or both, in many cases. A huge part of that population seek replacement female interaction in fictional media, whether real of not. Vtubing sits on the border of that, real life idoling nearby. Once again, those are the guys that you'd find most posting on boards in much higher frequency due to the nature of the medium.
What that group desperately depends on is the fantasy of the ideal woman in order to protect their insecurities. Western sexless men in particular have taken that desire to be deluded to an extreme degree, compared to their Japanese counterparts. A real life idol interacting with males is nothing uncommon in Japan. It happens all the time in front of her fan's eyes. Managers, gameshow hosts, announcers, even male idols in mixed collaborations are not nearly as frowned upon as on the fictional side. If you translated that behaviour to vtubing, you'd have people here throw an absolute shitfit, at least on /vt/, that is. The Japanese vtubing side has their extreme "no male interaction or I disown her" groups as well, but that view is by far not as common there as it is here.
