It was obvious both were lost, more so Aqua, Aqua soft quit years ago.
She was probably legit being paid to stay ON at that point.
Given the mention of Chii-chan, I have no doubt some of the other older members of Nijisanji are like that too. Mito is no doubt eventually just going to fuck off and I would not be surprised if they have been paying her extra just to stay, I would too if it was my company, and give them more freedom to do more daring projects given their senior status.

Why can't devs admit they fucked up and just reverse course?
Even if I spent a fuckload of money on some failed update to a game, I would instantly reverse course if it was poorly received.
Causing ill-will against a playerbase is extremely fucking hard to undo. Instantly going back on a shit update helps to mend that relationship.
