Holostars is a bit of a litmus test. If anything goes wrong with them, then there's a chance the company's going more corporate and less talent focused.
If they don't show up on the Q2 report with their concert, then it's going to be concerning.

Q4 is when HoloFes and bunch of big golden rush events happened

Q2-Q3 are some mid events but also somewhat major like Summer, Halloween, Christmas, New Year and others. HoloEN concert will also be in these quarters and maybe some new debuts

That leaves Q1 with basically nothing that big except when Cover decides to showcase big ones at that time. You can also think Q1 is the "taking easy and resting" after Q4 peak

My first impression is the numbers are healthy of course but wow they really invest /hired a lot this quarter.

Its the first time i have seen a minus sign in one of these reports.

Operating and Net profit is minus compared to Q1 2023 due to so much spending for hiring and expansion.

In terms of cost, this is their highest spending quarter based on SGA ratio

And they hired 61 people just last quarter ( compared to 17, 12 , 25, 46 in the previous quarters respectively). Up to 570 employees now. So it seems that Q1 is usually their largest hiring anyway which is the typical hiring season probably but this is the highest hiring since 2022

I thought after completing the studio , the expenses are gonna lower. But seems like the investment is still full steam ahead.

Overall a pretty meh quarter which should be expected since it was a rather dry period. Cover has been technically making more money, the increase in expenses and therefore lack of increase in Net and Operating profit will definitely spook short term investors. I would not be surprised if we saw people selling out tomorrow.
Still, outside of a pure shareholder's mindset Cover for the most part is doing okay. If I had to guess from the increased expenses, they're using the down time to prepare for various things like the US base.

I actually checked, and there's really no mention of holostars, tempus, armis, etc. at ALL in the report.
Not even as some easter egg in some holomeet photo like they did in the last quarter's report.

And yet they keep talking about holoearth despite it being a profit-less moneysink, while the homos technically do make a profit (taking into account generous amortization of capital costs like the studio).
This really shows that Cover has no confidence in the growth prospects of the homos.

Right now it's not a big concern since Cover still makes a good amount of profit, but if that's ever at risk of going negative, they're probably the first thing Cover's going to be looking at for cutting costs. Not holoearth since that project seems to be even more of a sacred cow than the homos.
Perhaps not outright laying holostars off or anything, but things like reduced support, laying off managers, less studio time, etc.

I think the thing that frustrates me about HoloEarth is I got at first they wanted to have like a social media platform with a built in virtual shop for concerts. That makes sense since they could essentially have a controlled environment under their own guidelines as they build their media platform to inevitably not depend on Youtube.

And then it became a survival game. And they lost me.

I honestly wonder how many SP games with more focus off any of the holomems woulda been. You could make an Amelia Watson investigation game, a beat em up with the fantasy gen, anything with easier mechanics to implement and more importantly avoiding the high cost of whatever this game is trying to be. It very easily looks like it escaped scope creep at some point. Just feels like a sinking hole to me.

Well, now Cover can say "Hey, we have something like that!" So all the Holos could play that instead.

Talk like a retard. Is not greed, is the ability to see ahead that they have. They want to own a distribution platform for content, so they don't depend on others and their bullshit. Just look at how sanitized Hololive had to become in the past year just due to YouTube autism. How many times were Hololive members hit with demonetizations in the 2020-2021 period? Add to that copyright strikes too. Cullings of subs. And so on. Holosumer got PG and standard, because fucking YouTube didn't like it. ASMR was killed, and killed Choco's and Mel's momentum. Even outside Youtube there are problems. Have you forgot when they had to give away a concert for free after the streaming platform couldn't deal with the amount of viewers? VRChat isn't safe of autism either. It's a pretty stupid idea to build a multi-billion dollars media empire on a platform you have no control off and that can hit you with arbitrary rules at any time. Outsourcing it would be rather stupid. They are building a metaverse not a game. They are figuring out what their metaverse wants to be, while most are trying to figure out what the Metaverse is. Outsourcing something so personal and ambiguous is a recipe for a money hole.

Seriously where did this investor shit come from? This is literally only on tv yet it’s spoken as fact. Unless they’re trying to take your company no investor gets involved. In fact 70-80% of investors are people paying other people to invest in companies for them. Next you aren’t taking out of their pocket you’re taking it out of yours because if they pull out you lost money and they just minimized risks. Lastly there is no long term goal they only survive off of their fans being obsessed with them and then sunk costs. Hololive is a big brand but nobody can replace the top names.

You’re talking three completely different and separate topics.
Traders are people making money off of trading as many stocks as possible. They don’t care about anything.
Investors are those that put money in hoping for a return. They only mildly care about the company because it might hurt them.
Shareholders are people that buy shares both to support and make a return. These go both ways.
And to answer your very confusingly written questions “because.” That’s the reasoning the same reasoning people here use to say “everything my company does just makes sense.” If they think it was a bad idea, and it arguably was then they bet against it. The money they paid the dodgers could’ve went towards a huge standard marketing campaign, setting up a free to watch concert on all platforms while paying to have it brought to the front of the page, or paid to sing the upcoming animes. The dodgers are a big deal, but Hololive is almost entirely digital paying for something that would be seen by the least amount of people is dumb
