Misdreavus and Sneasel sound like they'd fit but like Gengar they also felt too obvious and trite.
Instead of Igglybuff I thought of Clefable myself.
Other picks I had in mind were Parasect because bug and mushroom and Scyther or Scisor because scissor. I was also thinking of Tangela and a Novelite counterpart since it's a mass of black covered by tentacles with only eyes visible.
