>>84121152It's not QUITE a showing of favoritism but since this is corporate you will have leverage at play, basically how bad was the damage. Yes, it's like favoritism in a sense but more in terms of "value" to the other party.
So let's say someone like Peko in a moment of weakness breached NDA and said the Dodgers Collab was happening to a rival group before it was announced.
The Dodgers' representative would reach out to Cover and leverage would then be played.
The Dodgers collab is a big deal for both sides and it being leaked early to a competitor could be damaging. The representative would then state what they consider a fair punishment for breaching said NDA, in this case termination of the talent that breached NDA.
From here Cover play their own leverage. The popularity of the talent, their professionalism, etc. Anything to paint the talent in a good light that terminating them would be a negative not just for Cover but for their collaborator as well.
After both sides push their leverage a common ground is reached and the punishment is determined. For a large, super popular talent like Peko, they have far more leverage and can get away with a suspension of the talent, a lower cut of profits or paying "damages."
With a smaller talent like Mel they wouldn't have that extra leverage so they wouldn't get as much room to negotiate.
Yes it's corporate bullshit, yes it's not fair, yes everyone hates it and I'm damn certain Cover didn't want to terminate Mel when she had a moment of weakness while she was depressed.
This is why everyone was not only shocked but sad that it happened.
To say it's Cover's fault isn't entirely wrong, but it's more that the collaborator had far more leverage over them than they did since the talent in question was unfortunately not big enough to have the sway needed to change termination to a lighter punishment.
It's the world of corporations which while it offers so much potential and so many possibilities is also full of bullshit, red tape and all manner of fuckery that is designed to harm those that aren't big enough.
And don't take this the wrong way, I'm not defending Mel's termination, I think it's unfair bullshit too. I'm simply explaining how the world of business and corporations work.
I wish she got to stay or at least give a proper good bye. It's not right.
