Thinking about Mori’s comment on wanting a standout performance, I think she’s actually between a rock and a hard place there because what’s “non-standard” for an idol has actual become “standard” for Mori. To put it a different way, Mori’s songs are very much unlike standard J-pop and typical Idol music, but have become expected coming from her. I don’t believe this a bad thing at all, in fact it’s quite good to be more unique in the music industry, but I think she’s at the point she has to focus on the particulars of her presentation and performance, such as “how do you keep making the music that people come to you for, but also not just giving them the same thing over and over without relying on novelty?” Going off behind the scenes comments from Mori she’s certainly become that way about the raw quality, but I think she’s gotta start min-maxxing everything now lmao.
