It was still outright nepotism. Hiring based on someone being friends with a current employee is usually a bad idea. The girls were brought in because they were already experienced streamers AND were friends with FBK so they got special treatment. IIRC, a couple of them did 'audition' for the role but it was a given they would be joining.

It is only bad when it leads to bad hires. If your talent has talented friends and can vouch for them and you know they will already get along there is not reason to not hire them. In the business world lazy and efficient are very close to each other.

This is practiced pretty much everywhere anon. I work in tech and my employer heavily encourages us to submit referrals. They even pay us a few thousand for each successful one.

The thinking here is that good employees will know other good people. And this is true, referrals have a much higher chance of passing the interview gauntlet than a random, which saves everyone time.
