Being friends and the activity of hanging out are 2 different things. I had a friend during my years of high school, then we got separated because of different college goals and we barely hung out like before because our schedules are so conflicting. That doesn't mean we aren't friends

This is probably going to sound weird, but I honestly believe that if they looked more
overtly "animesque", they would've been better received from the beginning.
Using Shounen Jump as an example, imagine if they looked more like Saint Seiya or Yu Yu Hakusho instead of Naruto or Bleach. Or, stepping out of the Jump bubble, what if they went all in on 90s fantasy anime, like Slayers.
At the very least, they would've looked a lot more distinct, and less otome-ish.

Fanwise it's a mixed bag. Some have fully moved on while others are desperately hanging on to the past. Just an example, but there were fan artists that were putting out art or normal fans still trying to say that this year was *all* of HQ's second anniversary, instead of it being just Altare and Axel's.
