>>85102041When Regloss first debuted, fans were making comments about how their designs looked a little weird for Hololive and they should've just been JP7. A-chan did a very bad job of explaining why they were a separate branch. Then Laplus streamed and explained her """""head canon""""" on what Cover was doing with Regloss: they were intentionally trying to use them to attract a new audience - women/Niji fans. That's why they don't have fantastic themes, their colors are muted and two of them look like dudes.
From Cover's perspective, it doesn't make sense to hire a new Pekora or a new Korone, because they already have those fans. A new vtuber similar to the ones they already have won't bring in new money, it'll just split which talents get it. That's a bad investment from a business perspective. So Regloss is intentionally different. Now, is it true that this tactic works better than doubling down on what your corporation is already known for? We don't know. But Cover should, because they have the analytics.
But it's very clear that the girls themselves were not part of this decision, as others mentioned them being depressed and having to console them because they presumably expected to just be JP7 and didn't want to be "different" - they just wanted to be Hololive. Considering the L in Regloss looks like an upside 7, it's possible Cover was hedging their bets and if DEV_IS didn't work out (just like Miko, Irys, INNK and Gamers didn't) they could just rename them JP7 and pretend none of this happened. And maybe they will do that.
But I don't think they will because nips are racist and we all know Regloss isn't 5/5 JPs, so they're never going to bring them into the fold. They'll use the music group angle to keep HoloJP pure.
