The personalities of the Holostars don't really stand out and I don't think Ruze, Axel and Bettel could carry it.
The dungeons for the girls were unique and they all are very different from one another.
Can't tell you what personalities the guys have.

Holostars would've gotten their own SMP with full freedom to tell any story they want without being forced to comply to pre-modded game mechanics.

Because Holostars don't have to be "Idols" like the girls do, they have freedom to do almost anything they want.

In all seriousness and leaving homos aside, did it, though? All maps were done by just one guy and I can't think of any other notable external cost right now. While the idea that a guy earned dozens to hundred thousands bucks from just making MC maps over 5 months sounds fun, surely he didn't earn that much?

The maps were done by a single guy but there was a team that helped make it all work with plugins and mods, there were also animated sequences made by who knows how many people, original music was produced. There are also parts still in the works.
