It's not at ALL about adding this sorts of characters or even politics, it's about divisivness, and divisivness is caused by endorsement or disparagment.
Most the characters in Nier Automata are gay or bi, (most notably the game directors self insert). There's lots of trans characters and imagery in the series, and the game literally touches on every prominent political ideology under the sun.
Yet the game is never considered "woke" or even political, by even right wing nuts that know thos. Now why is that?
There is a smart way and a stupid way to incorporate diversity in your product, learn the difference.
