>>86729141I don't think you can entirely equate new gens for idols to planned obsolescence for tech. Sure, people stay with what they know works and don't want to spend money, but with idols, the cost factor isn't there beyond time spent unless the consumer wants to buy into the talent. But the similarity is that people want to stay with what they knew and are comfortable with, so unless they think it'll cut into an untapped market or have some crazy marketing plan, there is no incentive to another gen. And older gens make them money through milking nostalgia ad infinitum, so less of an assured thing than tech. Its so hard to really gauge what is best to do, as entertainers can enter a malaise at any time, possibly tanking their worth, but you can add more features to tech and market something new for big upfront gains(to a point). Its an interest thing to speculate.
