>>86878513The thing corpos fail to understand in this particular instance is that vtubing is meant to be fun. It is a form of entertainment for the audience, a way for them to relax and enjoy themselves without thinking of the bigger responsibilities of life in much the same way other people might watch a sports game or a Netflix series. At its core, vtubing is meant to be fun, and it's a two-way street: the vtuber and the audience must both be having fun for a vtubing career to be considered successful. As a corpo, Niji EN has the ability to do many of the things that you'd expect a typical corpotuber to be able to do. But Doki has consistently tried to find ways to engage her audience and make things more "fun" and interesting for the viewers.
Fanart guessing the next costume? Well, how about a costume contest where you get paid to submit entries?
I have a sponsorship? Let's get fanartists to submit entries and I'll showcase the top entries on stream to give both money and exposure to the community?
People clipping me? Well, let's go ahead and hire a bunch of them to do regular content and credit them on my profile!
Shorts spam? But what if we did artist YouTube memes like in the mid 2010s and fully animate them?
People stream sniping me? Let's turn it into content!
Doki has historically spun things around her into a more engaging take on the formula and that's a big part of her draw. Anycolor failed to leverage most of the ideas she brought to the table because they want formulaic, lower-effort money printing content that 99% of the industry adopts and regurgitates because that's what works. New things, innovative things, and expensive things do not make the money Anycolor wants. She brought it up herself: concerts are not her thing but LAN events and gaming events are more her speed, but because she is only one person amid the dozens of other corpotubers who can do a concert, she is forced to play to content that is not one of her strengths.
And the most important hurdle: unlike a corpo that tries to break through the veil of formality to come across as relatable and "fun", Doki laughs and talks her shit like a bro every few seconds. Annoying to some and filters the uninterested, but it helps her in maintaining accessibility to the common new viewer that might wanna check her stream for the first time. She maintains the "I am here have fun and you're here with me for the ride" atmosphere a stream should have. She's having a good time and she treats you like you're a bro to have a good time with her. Anycolor destroyed this with the black stream because now there is a precedent for once happy-go-lucky people like Elira to suddenly flip the script and change their entire demeanor because the company and situation demanded it.
