Some of them (lots of them) being lewd, some of them drawing, some of them collabing left and right, others being niche/gimmick, etc. That's not a bad thing.
I think it all boils down to "indie scene is pretty shit", I disagree with that.
There isn't a unified 'indie scene' as in contrast to a particular corpo subculture, like "two teams". Indies are like isles and everyone is pretty different. If anything, each indie has its own subculture, and I'd not be so quick in predicting compatibilities.
I always think about how all the Holos came from this 'indie scene' and how many of them are radically different but still ended up being good collab partners.
