Originally FNAF1 was just a hobby game meant for him to practice some game mechanics (energy consumption on bars primarily) but then it became ultra popular to the point where people don't even know he has an entire library of games besides FNAF that are objectively better.
In FNAF Worlds, the RPG game, he even put in a secret that has him talking about how he needs to make the next installment of the story because he needs to make it, and that's it. That he doesn't know what to write next and that he needs to make it anyway despite being so tired.
It's also the reason why Scott keeps horribly fucking with his fanbase since he's still a proper God-fearing Christian and blows off steam by releasing teasers that lead to nowhere instead of just turning to alcohol or drugs.
