Japan before the meiji restoration made Russia of the same time look like space age America. They embraced western way of thinking and economics to turn from basically a medieval society to a competitive world power in a matter of decades.
Russia was always a world power. Peasants were peasants everywhere, and that doesn’t make Russia special. It being "rural serfdom" was nothing unique about Russia. Russia literally fought and with the help of others defeated Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century. They were a major great power for a long time before communism. Communism simply rode the wave of technological advancements of the 20th century and makes tankies like you believe it’s evidence for the success of communism. And of course all the while you completely misrepresent what Russia was.
Japan is the perfect counterexample of why your argument is total bullshit.
