>>944202There's a lot of fan-projects that would be piss easy to make official versions of, and that's ignoring that Nintendo could literally just hire people working on those projects like Sega did with Sonic Mania.
Mario 3D All-Stars had the second-worst port of SM64 that's been released, only besting the Wii VC version. Meanwhile, for multiple years we've had the ability to play SM64 in 4K, 60 FPS (unlocked if you really want to; you don't), with full controller support (including the ability to change the camera to be analog-controlled), with improved texture quality (that not only looks better but puts less strain on the hardware), and more stable code. And for the purists, a lot of romhacks these days can be played on native N64 hardware, assuming you have the Expansion Pak. This is, of course, discounting actual romhacks that add new features and mechanics.
3DAS was a fucking scam, even if you assume that SM64 is only 1/3rd of the overall cost.
Honestly, though, I'd just settle for Nintendo allowing DS/3DS Capture Cards. There's a number of good games locked up in that hardware, like roughly half of Pokemon, the OoT/MM remakes, TWEWY, and a bunch of other games that Cover has permissions for but can't stream because of Nintendo.
