I've been contemplating something recently. Why are male vtubers so fucking bad? What is the cause of this almost universal truth? I think I've cracked it.
Fundamentally vtubers are failed entertainers of some form. Whether they originally wanted to be singers, idols, regular streamers, comedians, presenters, even fucking ASMRtists, whatever the thing they wanted to be they tried it and they couldn't make it as that. Damn-near every vtuber has a story along those lines. And despite failing to make it before vtubing, many do actually succeed after becoming vtubers. Hoshimachi Suisei repeatedly tried for record deals and idol groups and was rejected time and time again, yet as a vtuber she's more successful than she likely ever would have been in the flesh. Why is that?
Fundamentally the reason women fail is often not a matter of talent. I'm no feminist but it's true that things like appearance, sociability, trendiness, and all that other woman shit plays a huge factor; people would rather watch Margot Robbie than Melissa McCarthy (and this isn't just a guy thing, the same trend exists among women). So if you're socially awkward, or very autistic, or unnattractive, or unfashionable, or mentally retarded, or any combination of the above and more, you can still fail regardless of if you have enough talent to succeed. Males do not have this same problem, for us talent is the only metric which is why Steve Buscemi and Danny DeVito and hell even fucking Nikocado Avocado get to be household names.
For women who fail the guise of vtubing can cover those weaknesses and allow their talent alone to dictate whether or not they succeed. For men who fail the guise of vtubing changes nothing, for it cannot amplify or generate talent that doesn't already exist. Discuss.
