Don't forget that Niji was still at the top before the EN gen became a thing. Also notice that they don't really hire unknowns anymore, there was a lot of luck in the beginning but all their current moves are pretty strategic.

Come on Subaru hasn't collabed with a male for at least a year. Half of the list are Apex addicts and had to collab with males and are the bottom of hololive. Shishiron had 2 "No more Heroes 3" promotions with 2 males, wasn't on her channel so people might have missed it.
Niji can collab with the other gender but still they have people like levi and hayase who can't get average 1k viewers after 2 years even when levi has weekly memberstreams. Botan had 7 mengen in 13 months after getting called out and 3 wallpapers. Subaru...is a wasteland if you think it's 3 years but they both get 10k viewers easy.

As a filthy EOP, holos initially appealed to me more than nijis simply because of superior character design and fitting voices. In this aspect nijis are just really fucking boring and generic. Also, holos acknowledge EOP audience and actively engage with overseas fans.
