Hell yeah! A containment thread made just for me!
I highly recommend VN creation as a hobby if you like to write and feel very strongly about your oshi. It doesn't always have to be some super long project, right now 10-15 minute short VNs are all the rage on the itch.ios
But if you want to go the extra mile, you can put out a good narrative for a single girl in a simple novella length (80-120 pages, 1-2 hours, 8-10 scenes or so).
It does seem a bit daunting at first, since you have to micromanage every aspect of the writing, display, sound, music, gameplay. But luckily, all of these can be done for free. You can splice VN sprites from streams, beautiful BGs are free on Unsplash, a wide range of sound effects are free on Zapsplat, you can get textures for the UI from various sites, animations from various sites, and music from Dova Syndrome.
Renpy makes it easy. I've never had to use any Python in my scripts. I won't lie though, a lot of the finagling with the UI and extra features (like the dress-up game and jukebox) were a task to figure out. But still possible without any coding knowledge, just purely using the language of renpy.
So basically, it's not HARD, just time consuming. But it's really fun exploring all different sorts of aspects of creating it. I'd liken it to more like crafting a stageplay than a novel.
The upside is that writing your silly story is really fun, you can do anything you want with it.
In my VN, I have action, sex, comedy, drama, horror, and more. VNs really are conducive to conveying atmosphere.
You can put choices in whenever you're at a lost at where the plot should go.
You can put that badass anime song at a pivotal moment in your story's climax.
You can put in a bunch of anal scenes, who's gonna tell you no?
Seeing it's final iteration after you're all said and done is something beautiful, seeing the characters move around and react strongly, tell jokes, and laugh.
Sorry for the blogpost, I just want to read more vtuber VNs, since there's not a lot of them out there.

Pic rel is the transitions for a single line. It can get silly sometimes, when scripting a scene takes longer than it does to write it.
But having those effects there makes it seem so lifelike, so I can't resist.
