>>90255584The bubble girl thing is really disturbing in the first place, while it's intended to be hyperbole it still makes comparisons to a more severe disorder. Usually kids with SCID don't survive for more than a few months to a year without treatment. Early intervention has helped dramatically expand their lifespan. It's an incredibly rare and deadly disorder.
Ironmouse does not have that disorder or anything like it. She has CVID, where the C stands for common, and many people with the same disease live happy and normal lives if they get treatment. There has never been a situation in which Ironmouse has ever needed to be in a bubble, but she just takes extra precautions, or eats food that gives her indigestion and then complains about her illness. To be fair it's not like there are no risks at all, but there are more diseases that are more dangerous or even terminal that everybody knows. For example, kidney disease, when it gets to the late stages the script has pretty much been written. Likewise, some autoimmune disorders like MS can progress very rapidly and be very debilitating before leading to death. To a lesser extent and more similar to what Ironmouse has, there are disorders like diabetes and HIV which can be quite serious and predispose patients to higher risks for other diseases, but most people still live long and fulfilling lives with them.
That doesn't meant she doesn't have an illness but a lot of people have illnesses all around us. We don't call them bubble boy/girls either.
