>>90378403Because westerners, mainly Americans, are so consumed by consumerism that they can't see ethical or moral directions outside the lens of consumerism. They don't challenge the worldview of consumerism because that would mean genuine painful change for the greater good, but Americans are obsessed with being on 'the right side of history' and gaslight themselves into believing that as long as they consume ethically and force others to also consume ethically. And I do mean force to consume because if you simply just opt out of consumption, you are also seen as a bad person for not supporting people who are 'the good' by consuming their products. They believe that consumption despite it's horrific impacts socially, economically, politically and environmentally, can continue indefinitely since that's the easiest and most comfortable position to take whilst also pretending that what you're doing is the right thing to do.
