It makes sense, they want to soften the blow of graduations so they invented this affiliate thing. And now Fauna had a "disagreement with management", even going as far as saying she doesn't want to leave. This can only mean she's getting terminated but it's made to look like a graduation. Why else would she not become an affiliate and rake in the easy merch money?
